Before Your Exam

Exam Preparation Guidelines

Follow these instructions to ensure the best possible imaging results.

Ultrasound (Scan) Prep
  • Abdominal: Fast for 6–8 hours
  • Pelvic/OB: Full bladder required — drink 1 liter of water 1 hour before
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing
  • No special prep for MSK, Thyroid, or Vascular scans
X-Ray Prep
  • Remove all jewelry, watches, and metal objects
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing — you may be asked to change into a gown
  • Inform technologist if you are or may be pregnant
  • No fasting required for X-ray exams
